Aruna Reddy creates history to win bronze at Gymnastics World Cup

NEW DELHI: Aruna Budda Reddy turned into the first Indian gymnast to clinch an individual medal on the Gymnastics World Cup in Melbourne through securing bronze within the ladies's vault. Reddy, 22, scored 13.649 to complete at the back of gold medallist Tjasa Kysslef of Slovania and Emily Whitehead of Australia who took silver. The other Indian woman in competition, Pranati Nayak completed sixth with a rating of 13.416.

Reddy is a former black belt and Karate instructor. In 2005, Reddy won her first National medal which satisfied her to take in the sport. Reddy completed 14th on the qualification spherical of the Vault apparatus on the 2014 Commonwealth Games and went one up with a ninth-place end on the Asian Games. Also, on the 2017 Asian Championships, Aruna completed on sixth place on Vault.

Aruna will also contest within the ultimate spherical of the ground event on Sunday. In other events, Rakesh Patra completed fourth within the males's rings event. He continues to be within the fray for the final spherical of the parallel bars.
