CCTV cameras installed at 2 major dams in Belagavi

Belagavi: Hidkal Dam at the Ghataprabha and Navilu Teerth Dam at the Malaprabha are getting tight safety preparations, except a renovation at a cost of Rs 50 crore.

These are the 2 important dams of North Karnataka. Renovation has been taken up beneath the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project. Renovation contains repair of broken machinery or construction, installation of CCTV cameras, installation of lighting, cleaning, painting, beautification and tree planting. The govt of Karnataka is contributing 20% fund of the associated fee, while the remaining 80% is from the World Bank.


Built in 1977, Hidkal dam has a capability of 51tmcft of water, facilitates drinking water to Belagavi, Hukkeri and a couple of villages of Vijayapura district and likewise to three.3 lakh hectares of agriculture land. It was constructed at a cost of Rs 90 crore. The estimated renovation work price is Rs 26.5 crore. Navilu Teerth dam, in-built 1973, has a capability of 37 tmcft, facilitates water to Bailhongal, Saudatti and Dharwad and likewise to at least one.96 lakh hectares of agricultural land. It was constructed at a cost of Rs 23 crore. The estimated price of renovation is Rs 23 crore.


According to government of the dams, in the first segment, all repair work has been finished and it included repair of crest gates and machinery. Nine new CCTV cameras will probably be put in at Navilu Teerth Dam. The lighting work at each dams is nearing completion level.
