Chanting bhajan, farmers hold protest over pending sugar bills

Belagavi: As a part of their agitation difficult clearance of pending sugarcane dues from two factories, farmers chanted bhajans in front of the deputy commissioner’s place of work in Belagavi on Monday.
Agitating under the management of Sidagouda Modagi, head of Bharatiya Krishik Samaj (Samyukta), accused Soubhagyalaxmi Sugar Factory, owned by district minister Ramesh Jarkiholi, and Shivsagar Sugar Factory of intentionally delaying fee of the pending expenses since the previous two years. Despite the state executive’s order, the district authority isn't taking any motion towards the defaulting sugar factories, mentioned Modagi.

Earlier, homages have been paid to farmer leader and MLA Ok S Puttannaiah, who died on Sunday evening.

Fair value for vegetables

Farmers, under the banner of Hasiru Sene and Karnataka State Farmers Association, Belagavi taluk unit, submitted a memorandum to the district management, difficult fulfillment of their various demands, including fair value for vegetables. They additionally demanded that MNREGA scheme be extended to farmers.


Farmers are not even getting again their funding amount as the prices of cabbage, tomato, peanuts and cauliflower have crashed previously one month.


A quintal of cabbage is trading at Rs 100 whilst tomato is Rs 200-400. Cauliflower is being offered at Rs 30-50 for a dozen items.


Appasaheb Desai, Subhash Dhaygonde, Ramangouda Patil, Namdev Dudum, Balu Mayanna, Raju Rajai and Raju Kaganikar have been provide at the instance.
