Corporation school faces teacher shortage

COIMBATORE: Chan Bhasha, father of a category IX student at the Anupperpalayam Corporation High School on Nanjappa Road in the town, is a worried guy. He has now not made up our minds whether to let his son proceed in the same faculty, as it has no academics for Science and Maths.
The precarious state of affairs arose after the varsity’s headmaster got promoted to the next secondary faculty in the town final July. Around the same time, the varsity’s science trainer was promoted and transferred to another faculty. Since then, the maths trainer has been pressured to carry out the headmaster’s as well as the science trainer’s duty.

As the Class X practical tests are nearing, government on final Friday despatched a temporary science trainer to assist students, a trainer advised TOI. “Last November, a maths trainer was deputed to the varsity, easing things a bit of. The trainer took just right care of the students, which reassured parents. But, in January, the teacher was shifted to another faculty dealing with workforce shortage. This irked the fogeys, who took the problem to corporation education officials,” he stated.

Last Thursday, corporation education officials had confident a group of parents that they'd shift the maths trainer again to the varsity on Monday, Bhasha stated. “But, they didn't stay their word,” he added.

Bhagavathi Raj, another parent, blamed the craze of academics leaving the varsity, affecting the students’ efficiency.

“We admit our youngsters in executive schools as they are affordable. But, in this sort of state of affairs, what can parents do? The future of Class X students is at stake. We fear that our youngsters might perform poorly in board tests because of lack of guidance and waste an academic 12 months,” he advised TOI.

Teachers at the faculty stated they have been harassed with extra duties because of workforce shortage. “But, we give our highest to the students. We have prepared Class X students neatly for the board tests,” a trainer stated.

Meanwhile, the corporation leader education officer stated government have made up our minds to depute the maths trainer again to the varsity. “It will be executed in a couple of days,” the officer stated.

Including the newly-deputed science trainer, the varsity has 5 other academics — the maths trainer, who also takes care of the headmaster’s duties, an English trainer, one social science trainer and two Tamil academics. The faculty has 116 students, 20 of whom are in Class X.

The Anupperpalayam Corporation High School was began in 1951 as a Tamil medium faculty. In 1963, English medium was also added. Parents stated the varsity has the recognition of scoring 100% effects previously.
