Monkey injured, pact with catcher nixed

GURUGRAM: Weeks after a four-month-old monkey was once injured after falling from a tree throughout a monkey catching exercise at Valley View Estate, a residential society on Gurgaon-Faridabad street, MCG on Tuesday cancelled the contract of its animal rescue agency.

Following a criticism filed through animal activists, the civic body had performed an investigation. "We cancelled the agency's contract as the probe revealed that they were using illegal means to rescue animals. A new agency will be hired by the corporation soon after ensuring that all norms and laws are followed while rescuing animals," said Y S Gupta, joint commissioner of MCG.


Reportedly, the agency employees on February 3 administered medicine through bananas to a group of monkeys in Valley View Estate resulting in the four-month-old monkey falling from a tree, resulting in fracture in each the legs, and being attacked through a few stray canine.


Nikhil Mahesh from Umeed (an animal welfare NGO), who has been taking good care of the injured monkey, said, "The monkey is still in an overly important condition. We have consulted many professionals, however it kind of feels one among monkey's foot can't be handled and might must be amputated. Also, he isn't in a condition to go through a surgical procedure now as he has develop into very week due to the have an effect on of sedatives.


"Cancelling the contract isn't a solution to the lifelong injury led to to the monkey. It is surprising that the police have not registered any FIR within the topic yet. We demand strict legal motion against the agency," he advised TOI .
