No fuel for helmetless riders in twin cities

HUBBALLI: If you are driving to a gasoline station in the twin towns to tank up your bike, be sure you are dressed in a helmet. Otherwise, you won't be allowed a refuel.

As a part of their force to deliver at least 90% of the 4.5 lakh two-wheelers in the twin towns beneath the helmet rule in the following couple of days, the Hubballi-Dharwad police department will release the no-helmet-no-fuel marketing campaign on Thursday. Only 30% of the riders in the twin towns put on helmet, a police supply stated, including the force will cross on till complete compliance is achieved.


The department has put up banners and posters on the 68 gasoline stations in the twin towns as also at vantage points, informing riders that gasoline won't be offered and not using a helmet. Deputy commissioner of police (crime and site visitors) BS Nem gouda told TOI they held meetings with bunk homeowners and 14 two-wheeler showrooms in twin towns . "We've urged showrooms not to deliver a new two-wheeler without a helmet and also do not accept bike-service requests if there's no helmet. Likewise, we've asked the road transport authorities not to register bikes whose owners do not have a helmet," he stated.


One police officer will likely be deployed at each petrol bunk to deliver the location beneath keep watch over if the rider selections a struggle with bunk staffers over denial of gasoline. All stations and showrooms have been aligned on the force.


"We are visiting schools and colleges to drive home the message," police stated.
