PNB scam: No need for us to monitor probe at this stage, says SC

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court got here down heavily on a PIL petitioner for “playing to the gallery” via pressuring the court to entertain his plea looking for court-monitored probe into the Rs 11,300 crore PNB rip-off.

Petitioner advocate Vineet Dhanda endured to plead with a bench of CJI Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud for issuance of notice to the Centre, at the same time as lawyer general Okay Okay Venugopal stated there used to be little need for judicial intervention at this level as probe companies had registered FIRs in the case and had effected arrests.

“The entire nation is observing the complaints as the Centre had finished nothing previously in equivalent scams and allowed Vijay Mallya to flee the rustic,” Dhanda stated and insisted that notice must cross to the Centre on his petition which used to be airing the criticism of millions of Indians.

The bench stated, “When the AG is questioning maintainability of the petition, should we no longer hear him? Your function turns out handiest to seek publicity. We should no longer pre-empt the government from investigating the case. If govt companies do not examine the case correctly, then we can examine whether or not we should intervene.”
