NEW DELHI: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) president Badruddin Ajmal on Thursday said Army leader General Bipin Rawat were "misinformed and misguided", an afternoon after Rawat hinted that an inflow of illegal Muslim migrants into Assam had resulted in the expansion of the previous's party, reported ANI.
"We respect General Rawat a lot but I think he has been misinformed and misguided," ANI quoted Ajmal as pronouncing at a press conference in Guwahati.
Ajmal clarified that his party had all the time given "20-25 seats to our Hindu brothers in all elections," and urged that they be allowed to "live with the dignity of an Indian."
"If Army chief is saying that demographic change is happening in Assam then it is the government's job to check it. We are the only party which said that shoot anyone who infiltrate into our borders," he added.
The party has also sought appointments with the President, Prime Minister and residential minister to "clarify our position."
Earlier as of late, too, Ajmal had expressed surprise over General Rawat's "political statement".
At an match in Delhi yesterday, Rawat had talked about the "faster" expansion of the AIUDF in Assam and an build up within the "Muslim population" in numerous districts of the state.
He had also said that the inflow of Muslim migrants within the northeast was a part of a "proxy game" being completed by "our western neighbour (Pakistan)", with beef up from around the "northern border (China)", to stay the area disturbed.
