Serial conman tries to dupe cop, arrested

Coimbatore: A 31-year-old guy, who posed as a superintendent of police from Vijayawada and demanded Rs three,000 from a sub-inspector right here, has been arrested. He used to be known as Ok Gopalakrishnan, a resident of Jeeva Nagar in Kovilpatti.

Gopalakrishnan had moved to Adilapad district in Andhra Pradesh (now in Telengana) with his folks, who set up a restaurant there. “He completed his studies there and even claims to have completed MBA. Two and a part years in the past, he walked into a police station at Adilapad and used a walkie-talkie to call for money from sub-inspectors. But, he used to be arrested and remanded in judicial custody. His folks disowned him after the incident. He then left for Chennai, the place he used to be arrested for stealing iron rods. From Chennai, he left for Thiruchedur the place he duped his friends promising them jobs. He cheated them to the track of Rs 4 lakh. He used to be sentenced to two years imprisonment,” stated a police officer. After popping out of the jail a few weeks in the past, Gopalakrishnan came to Coimbatore.


He known as the Kattoor legislation and order police station over phone at 7pm on February 21 and presented himself as P Ravikanth, superintendent of police of Vijayawada. He wanted the sub-inspector to pay Rs three,000 to his relative visiting Coimbatore as he had misplaced his handbags. He even promised to return the money thru on-line transfer. Since the inspector used to be out of station, a police officer had attended the call. He informed senior officers in regards to the name.


When they contacted the Vijayawada police station, it used to be revealed that a police officer named Ravikanth used to be no longer operating there. The officers known as him again and advised him to ask his relative accumulate the money from the station. Gopalakrishnan, who became up the station, used to be grilled by means of the law enforcement officials.


He used to be arrested and booked below Section 170 (impersonating a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code and 420 (cheating). He used to be despatched in judicial custody.
