Elections for three Rajya Sabha seats from Odisha on March 23

BHUBANESWAR: Three Rajya Sabha seats in Odisha are among general 58 seats which would move to poll on March 23. Elections to a few seats in Odisha might be held as tenure of Dilip Tirkey, AU Singhdeo and BJD-backed unbiased candidate AV Swami would entire in April, 2018.

According to a communication issued by way of the Election Commission of India, notification for the election can be issued on March five while ultimate date of nomination can be on March 12.


Keeping the choice of MLAs of the ruling BJD within the state meeting (117 MLAs within the 147-member space), BJD’s victory in all the 3 seats is a foregone conclusion.


As probability of the re-nomination of the trio is also less, numerous celebration leaders are lobbying hard to get the Rajya Sabha berths. According to BJD sources, one of the most cabinet ministers have also expressed their pastime to be elected to the higher space. The celebration is yet to open its card on its Rajya Sabha nominations.


Earlier, Panchayati Raj Minister Pradeep Maharathy had mentioned that he was in a position to give up as cabinet minister if celebration president would nominate him for Rajya Sabha.


All eyes also are on Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, whose tenure would also come to an end in April. His tenure because the Rajya Sabha member had started on April three, 2012.
