Tirupur district to get consumer redress forum by March

TIRUPUR: After a protracted wait, the Tirupur district consumer disputes redress discussion board (DCDRF) will soon be opened because the state government has sanctioned budget to ascertain a facility for a similar.
Though the Madras top court in 2015 directed to ascertain the discussion board, it took several months for the federal government to finalise the project.

Around 700 cases, under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, associated with various items and services and products classes are filed from Tirupur district annually. Most of the cases can be preferred before the Coimbatore DCDRF and the remainder of the cases can be filed before the Erode DCDRF.

Though Tirupur district used to be shaped in 2009, the federal government has failed to ascertain the discussion board in the district. A public hobby litigation (PIL) used to be filed before the top court in the hunt for its intervention. The top court directed the federal government to ascertain the discussion board in Tirupur and Ariyalur districts inside 8 weeks, said N Shanmughasundaram, joint secretary, Federation of Consumers’ Organization Society.

The government too passed an order in the meeting however it's likely to be learned in Tirupur now only. The government have identified a construction at Sengunthapuram on Mangalam Road, where the discussion board will start performing from March. They will soon fix a date for inauguration, said resources.


Apart from appointing a retired trial court pass judgement on as president of the discussion board, a staff of head clerk, two office assistants, one junior assistant and stenographer have been also sanctioned for the discussion board as consistent with norms.


Shanmughasundaram said: “As Coimbatore and Erode boards have been confused with handling extra cases, the disposal charge used to be gradual in many cases in both the boards. So, the shoppers from Tirupur district have been struggling probably the most. If the discussion board starts performing from Tirupur, the disposal charge will increase.”


The consumer rights activists have recommended the judiciary to switch all the cases which were filed from Tirupur district to its discussion board.
