TIRUPUR: The state govt has determined to fund the Avinashi-Athikadavu floor water recharge scheme utterly and execute it without any help from the central govt.
Though the AIADMK govt had earlier sought monetary the aid of the Central Water Commission beneath the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, it changed the thoughts after farmers from four western districts fastened a huge force on it to start the mission with out any longer delay, said a source with the Public Works Department (PWD).
"Earlier, our plan was to set up open water canals from Pillur dam. But in order to cut the cost, we have modified the plan and decided to pump water from Kalingarayan canal of Bhavani river by setting up underground pipelines," a senior PWD official told TOI.
The PWD said it used to be taking into account a solar power era scheme close to Kalingarayan canal at a value of Rs 60 crore to provide electricity for the water pumping mission.
The official additional said the PWD has prepared a new detailed mission document with an estimated price of Rs 1,850 crore. Earlier, the mission used to be estimated to price Rs three,500 crore.
"Since the project has been modified, the state government won't wait for the clearance from the Union ministry of environment and forests. The government is also likely to terminate the services of Water and Power Consultancy Services, which was assigned to prepare environmental impact assessment report," another PWD source said.
The state govt had earlier announced to finish comfortable process and lay foundation stone on December 31. Now, it has confident Avinashi-Athikadavu Project battle committee to begin the mission on the earliest.
Once the mission is implemented, it'll benefit greater than 1.5 acres of agricultural land throughout Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode districts.
