HUBBALLI : When the federal government is claiming a major step forward when it comes to journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh's homicide, writers of north Karnataka area have recalled Gauri by means of liberating two books on her memoirs and articles.
' Gauri Nota' is edited by means of Basoo of Gadag and Pamparaddi Aralahalli of Karatagi, while 'Gauri Hoovu' is edited by means of Kumar Buradikatti of Kalaburagi.
Sharing the circumstances that brought about them to publish 'Gauri Nota', Basoo mentioned that a crew of activists in Gadag had been staging agitation on the 15th and 20th day of each month looking for the arrest of the murderers.
"Some progressive writers questioned the need for such agitations, saying Gauri was neither a great leader nor a veteran journalist. They also claimed that Gauri has emerged a great soul because of such agitations. Such unsavoury comments prompted us to give a befitting reply. We cannot keep quiet over her murder and that of other thinkers like Pansare, Dabholkar and Kalburgi. We recalled Gauri through this book," he mentioned.
Aralahalli informed TOI that Gauri never lived for herself and was once now not murdered for private reasons. "In her quest for social equality, Gauri always criticized fascism and capitalism. This book is a small gesture aimed at acknowledging her efforts," he termed.
The 376-page ebook incorporates memoirs of Gauri's mother Indira, sister Kavitha Lankesh, well-wishers, pals and admirers. It also has compilations of articles revealed in more than a few state, national and international media following her assassination. It ends with a blurb by means of psephologist Yogendra Yadav.
'Gauri Hoovu' editor Buradikatti had worked with Gauri for some years in her tabloid 'Lankesh Patrike'. "Gauri Hoovu' is a Kannada translation of English book 'The way I see it' edited by Chandan Gowda. We have added Gauri's articles published in different media along with those on Gauri by various writers. Many writers readily agreed to contribute, and this shows how Gauri was admired by one and all," Buradikatti mentioned.
The 320-page ebook, which was once launched in Bengaluru just lately, has a preface by means of Malayalam creator Paul Zacharia and blurbs by means of Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani, JNU student leaders Kumar Kanhaia and Shehla Rasheed, and activists Vasu H V and Umar Khalid.
'Gauri Nota' will likely be launched by means of Kavitha in Gadag on Monday.
