CHENNAI: Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Chennai zone, seized 23.1kg of gold from Rameswaram-Chennai Sethu Express educate when it reached at Egmore railway here on Thursday.
Acting on details about smuggling of large amount of gold, DRI officials conducted searches on Rameswaram-Chennai Sethu Express educate and seized 123 gold bars from smugglers.
The smugglers have been travelling from Rameswaram and had concealed the gold bars in specially designed pouches round their waist.
The gold bars were smuggled in from Sri Lanka on a boat and then carried to Chennai through educate, the DRI stated.
The smugglers have been arrested. Further investigations have been on.
