Rajkot: Tragedy struck a wedding birthday celebration when 30 people, including the bridegroom’s folks, sister and grandmother, died after the truck they were travelling in plunged right into a water drain from a bridge near Ranghola village, 54 km from Bhavnagar town, on Tuesday.
The motive force lost regulate of the automobile while trying to overtake a van on a partly constructed bridge at around 6:30am. The truck hit the bridge railing and fell on a concrete slab 30 ft underneath and overturned. Most of the people died underneath the burden of the truck. The victims come with 17 men, 12 women and one child. At least 45 others were injured and eight of them are said to be important. The coincidence used to be so grotesque that 26 died at the spot and special crane needed to be called to remove people from underneath the truck.
The victims were members of the family and relations of groom Vijay Vaghela from Anida village in Sihore taluka and were going to Tatam near Gadhdha for his wedding ceremony. Sources said that Vijay had left ahead of them in some other automotive and reached Tatam. His folks Pravin Vaghela and Prabha, sister Jasu and grandmother Jini are a number of the dead.
Fire brigade and ambulance from Sihore and Botad were rushed to the spot along with five teams of 108 emergency carrier. The injured were rushed to Sir T sanatorium in Bhavnagar where 4 people succumbed to their injuries.
Sejal Vaghela, the groom’s cousin sister who is underneath treatment in Bhavnagar sanatorium, said, “We all were very excited for the marriage. We were singing songs and playing music. Suddenly, I felt a jerk and the truck fell off the bridge.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief over the the coincidence and said it used to be “extremely unlucky and anguishing”. “My condolences to all those that lost their family members due to an coincidence near Ranghola in Gujarat. The coincidence used to be extremely unlucky and anguishing. May those that had been injured recuperate at the earliest,” he used to be quoted as saying in a tweet via the Prime Minister's Office.
Chief minister Vijay Rupani introduced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the family members of each deceased from the CM's Relief Fund and ordered an inquiry into the coincidence.
