ABVP: Most complainants our members

NEW DELHI: Women’s rights organisations on Tuesday for the first time discovered an not likely ally in ABVP which expressed unity with them demanding the arrest of JNU professor Atul Johri, who's accused of sexual harassment.
While protesting outside the Vasant Kunj police station, the organisations, which incorporated All India Democratic Women’s Association, All India Progressive Women’s Association, and scholars’ teams like SFI and AISA, also accused police of conniving with Johri and criticised them for “inordinate extend” in the probe. A delegation led by P Okay Sreemathi, a CPM MP, also met the police.

Students of SLS, then again, claimed that they have been blind to protests by ABVP. “All protests have been referred to as by the college scholars. ABVP has been supporting us from outside,” mentioned one of them.

ABVP, in the meantime, claimed that most of the complainants have been their participants and demanded a rapid trial in the case.

In a joint commentary, the ladies’s organisation mentioned, “The harassment of girl scholars in JNU is very condemnable and shameful. Nine scholars from Johri’s laboratory have registered a police complaint against him.” They also raised concerns over the professor nonetheless occupying some vital administrative positions, just like the wardenship of Chandrabhaga Hostel, and claimed that Johri is likely to make use of his clout to steer the probe. “Pressure is already being exerted at the girls to withdraw the complaint,” they claimed.

The our bodies demanded that the JNU management should instantly droop Johri and bar him from supervising scholars until the investigation is completed.

ABVP protested at School of Life Sciences , the centre the place Johri is a professor. It also demanded that the complainants “be provided unhindered laboratory get right of entry to and it should be ensured that their analysis proceed unabated.” They also sought fast suspension of Johri, all professors, academics and scholars against whom cases of sexual harassment are pending.
