BHUBANESWAR: Twelve other folks needed to be taken to the medical institution once they had been attacked through honey bees at the premises of the state secretariat on Thursday. The incident came about simply minutes earlier than chief minister Naveen Patnaik's arrival at the secretariat, forcing him to take the again door to reach his workplace at the third floor.
Hundreds of tribals from different portions of the state had gathered at the secretariat garden. Suddenly a swarm of bees swooped down upon them, catching them unawares. As other folks ran for cover, many had been stung. Some even jumped into the fountain to escape the assault.
Around 50 other folks, together with tribal women and children, had been stung out of whom 12 needed to be taken to Capital Hospital. Later, 9 had been released after first help and three needed to be hospitalised. "No one was seriously injured though many had swelling on their faces and other parts of the body," said Dr Dhananjay Das, deputy clinical superintendent of Capital Hospital.
"A swarm of honey bees came buzzing towards the gathering and stung following which people started running. While some ran all over the lawns, a few lay on the ground, covering their faces. Government officials and mediapersons went inside the secretariat building," said a safety workforce deployed at the primary front of the secretariat.
The bees are said to have seemed from the hives situated near the flag posts atop the secretariat.
Tribal building minister Ramesh Majhi and senior officers of his department visited the Capital Hospital to take stock of the situation.
