BHUBANESWAR: The BJD on Tuesday sought elimination of suspended MP Baijayant Panda from Pparliamentary Standing Committee on Home affairs.
Party’s leader in Lok Sabha Bhartruhari Mahtab, in a letter to Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan, additionally requested to allocate Panda a separate seat clear of the seats earmarked for participants of BJD in the Lok Sabha chamber.
“Panda is a member of Standing Committee on Home affairs at the energy of BJD (in the Parliament). Since, he has now been suspended from the membership of BJD; we need to have some other member of our party in the committee on Home affairs,” Mahtab noted in his letter.
On January 24, the BJD suspended Panda, one of its high-profile MP, from number one membership, accusing him of indulging in anti-party activities.
The letter to the Lok Sabha speaker was to take all consequential actions, legit resources stated. Panda was not available for further comments at the building.
According to resources, the party wants to induct its chief whip in the Lok Sabha and Dhenkanal MP Tathagata Satpathy as member of the Standing Committee on Home affairs.
Though, the party recently announced to restructure the representation of its MPs in more than a few standing and consultative committees of the Parliament, there can be no adjustments in the intervening time.
“There can be no adjustments for BJD MPs in the present parliamentary standing committees. They will proceed to be participants of identical committees as sooner than,” informed Mahtab.
The decision to restructure its representation in the parliamentary committee was taken right through the parliamentary party meet at Naveen Niwas on Saturday.
