Tirupur: Most contributors of the arunthathiyar community at Theerthampalayam near Kangeyam don't seem to be in a position to openly toughen the family which used to be compelled to fall at the feet of a couple of gounders during a kangaroo courtroom held in the village lately.
Some key contributors of the dalit community resent the fact that the family did not seek the advice of them prior to accommodation a police complaint in opposition to the gounders. They also feel that supporting the family may just jeopardize the unity among each the communities in administering arunthathiyar’s temple at Theerthampalayam hamlet in Paranchervali panchayat.
Meanwhile, the family demanded an apology from the gounders, who compelled to fall at their feet, to withdraw the FIR registered via the police. But the gounders involved had declined the demand.
According to a legend, arunthathiyars in Theerthampalayam were stopped via some other dalit community other people from coming into a temple in the hamlet. Arunthathiyars established Mahaliamman temple with the toughen of gounders at Theerthampalayam. At provide, gounders from 9 hamlets and arunthathiyars are administering the temple jointly.
Recently, the Mahaliamman temple used to be spruced up with financial contribution from gounders. Both the communities jointly organized Kumbabishekam pageant. Though traditionally the temple’s priest would be from arunthathiyar community, a brahmin priest used to be appointed to conduct rituals of Kumbabishekam pageant, which used to be performed as in step with Agama laws. Arunthathiyars were promised that their community priest might be allowed once 48 days of Mandala Puja completed.
“Traditionally, gounders would make donations, particularly buffaloes and goats, apart from cash, for three-day annual pageant of the temple in Tamil month of Thai. Except few incidents, there have been no incidents took place in a way of oppressing arunthathiyars generally,” said V Sakthivel, 45, the top of the victim family.
“But now, a couple of gounders in Shanmughampalayam hamlet crossed their limits and humiliated our family,” said Devi, 40, who and her 19-year-old daughter were compelled to fall at the feet of gounders.
“Lodging a police complaint in opposition to gounders may just make cracks in courting between the 2 communities. Moreover, Sakthivel and his family did not seek the advice of us prior to filing the police complaint. We wanted them to settle the problem amicably,” said a key member of the temple management.
However, many different arunthathiyars told TOI that despite the fact that they were firmly in opposition to what took place to Sakthivel’s family, they may no longer pop out and toughen them openly on account of the community’s common resolution.
When contacted, a gounder who took part in the kangaroo courtroom, which ordered the dalit family to fall at their feet or pay positive of Rs five,000, told TOI that “It used to be wrong to power such punishment.” But many different gounders, particularly the accused in the case, were gave the impression not to notice the similar.
