Earth Hour: Harsh Vardhan asks people to switch off lights for an hour on March 24

NEW DELHI: Union surroundings minister Harsh Vardhan on Friday made an impassioned appeal to the folks to switch off all non-essential lighting fixtures for an hour on March 24 to mark the Earth Hour, saying he himself will accomplish that.

"Tomorrow, on March 24, as we celebrate Earth Hour, I will switch off all non-essential lights in my office and residence from 8:30 to 9:30 pm in support for action against nature loss. I urge you to do the same," an authentic statement quoted the minister as saying.

He made a powerful pitch for "Give Up to Give Back" and "Connect2Earth".

"The campaign should be seen as an opportunity to adopt a shifting of the consumption culture and behaviour change towards sustainability, helping economise operations and reduce the costs," he stated.

"Give Up" is a choice that should make smarter choices for the character and ship a long-term affect, the minister stated.

He emphasized that staring at Earth Hour may be a "part and parcel" of the "Green Good Deeds" motion, through which each and every individual should take small, voluntary green actions to protect and conserve the environment and the earth.

Vardhan exhorted the folks to adopt one "Green Good Deed" each day - reminiscent of planting a sapling, segregating waste, cycling to paintings or use automotive pool, stop using plastic.

Earth Hour is the world's greatest grassroots motion for the environment the place voters all over the world unite to take a stand towards local weather exchange by way of turning off non-essential lighting fixtures for one hour.
