Tirupur: A major fireplace in a shop promoting chemical substances used for making fireworks sent shockwaves a number of the shopkeepers and residents in the busy Old Bazaar Street and surrounding areas on Wednesday.
The 70-year-old shop, situated on Eswaran Kovil Street in the center of town, had stuck fireplace around 1pm. Seeing the large flames, panicked shopkeepers and commuters ran for his or her lives. But, the norms were violated,” a police officer stated.
The streets around Visweswaraswamy and Veeraraghava Perumal Temple host a hectic bazaar. After the incident, several people requested authorities to shift two shops, including a neighbouring shop that also promote the chemical substances, from where. “It is also the first time that one of these main fireplace has took place here, however the shops pose a danger to our lives. So, the district management should take motion to shift the 2 shops that promote the same products on Eswaran Kovil Street,” urged Sakunthala Devi, a neighborhood resident.
