MUMBAI: Former state minister Eknath Khadse on Thursday said he smelt a rat in the government’s declare that just about 3.2 lakh rodents have been killed in per week in Mantralaya via a contractor in 2016.

He identified that BMC had killed 6 lakh rats around the town in 2015 and 2016. "The contractor was paid Rs 1.5 for each and every rat,” he advised journalists out of doors the assembly later.
In the assembly, Khadse said the overall administration department (GAD) had invited bids to kill rats harmful information and cables in Mantralaya. The government said there have been 3,19,400 rats in Mantralaya, he said claiming that the tips was given in reply to an RTI query via the BJP MLA from Bhandara, Charan Waghmare.
Recalling Dharma Patil, a farmer who ate up poison within Mantralaya for not getting good enough repayment for his land acquired for a solar power undertaking, Khadse said, “He ate up the poison that was intended to kill rats.”
Khadse said it was later found out that the contractor did not have a licence to handle the poison nor did he take permission from the GAD or the home department to position poison in Mantralaya.
"Such instances bring a nasty identify to the federal government. Rather than appointing a contractor the federal government must have simply let 10 cats inside the Mantralaya who would have effectively exterminated the entire rodents,” said Khadse, who was ousted from the cabinet in 2016 following allegations of misuse of power in a land deal through which his family members have been concerned.
“There have been major irregularities in the gentle or the contractor has cheated the federal government," said Khadse adding that although the gentle was issued in 2016, the invoice was cleared most effective recently.
While issuing the gentle, the time stipulated to catch or kill the rats was six months but if the work order was issued it was lowered to two months, he said adding that, the contractor, on the other hand, claimed to have finished the work in simply seven days— May 3 to May 10, 2016.
He said that in keeping with the federal government’s RTI answer, the contractor had killed nine lots of rats every day. Khadse said, “This implies that the contractor killed a truck filled with rats. Does the federal government know the place he dumped them? Can the contractor display us the website?"
Junior minister of GAD Madan Yerawar said the federal government would look at the tendering procedure and the main points of it's going to be submitted ahead of the legislative assembly.
