Karthik, although, is definitely acutely aware of the demanding situations that lay forward and can be keen to select the brains of KKR coach Jacques Kallis. "At this point I am a little nervous and at the same time excited as well. It's a very young side. There are few very interesting talents from India Under-19 that we have picked up. Things have come in really fast to me and I am looking forward to it," Karthik, who is a part of the Indian team for the Nidahas Trophy tri-series, mentioned of his new function.

For Karthik, his "fearless" way can be a very important element in his leadership e-book. TN coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar mentioned that Karthik's "high energy levels" on the box must have been one of the most key components which will have tilted KKR's choice in his favour.

"He knows the IPL set up and will be a fearless captain. That's how he approaches his batting. He should back his instincts no matter what the results are in the first few games. When you are leading, there will be a few people saying things. He has to understand that and then back his call. His enthusiasm and chirpiness on the ground is critical. I think that's one quality of Karthik which would have made KKR take the decision," the previous Pune Supergiant assistant coach told TOI.

At this stage of his career, this is a great opportunity for him. There will be pressure but I'm sure he will embrace this challenge," mentioned Badrinath.

KKR have reasonably a couple of teenagers in their squad. Both Badrinath and Kanitkar really feel that Karthik's "approachable and friendly" nature in coping with kids will help KKR. "He is definitely a skipper for the youngsters. He loves being around with youngsters and passing on knowledge. He will back them and give them freedom to express themselves. That's a good thing for KKR," Badrinath added.
