Police using GPS data to mark accident spots accurately

Coimbatore: The rural police have started the usage of international positioning gadget (GPS) receivers to mark the exact spot of road injuries. The amassed knowledge is entered in the case diary (CD) file and may also be exported to the Google Maps for future reference, division resources mentioned.

“The rural police had gained 39 GPS devices. We have handed over a device to each and every of the 20 alpha groups that attend accident instances in January. They had been the usage of the devices to file the latitude and the longitude of accident spots. We file the main points at the CD information to refer to the spots as it should be,” superintendent of police Pa Moorthy mentioned.

“The final 19 devices have been handed over to 19 inspectors for a similar function. The division may be planning to mark the spots on maps so that cops may easily identify them in future,” he mentioned.

The rural police technical inspector Jagadeesan had given coaching to 80 alpha team individuals, 21 inspectors and 46 other cops.

“A few months ago, we started to use the instrument in Coimbatore city. Whenever injuries have been reported, site visitors investigation wing (TIW) police used to mention in the FIR that the accident spot was once near a bakery or a faculty. But, this instrument would give us correct location. The knowledge can be despatched to the state government, which is planning to use the main points for a cluster mapping challenge to identify unhealthy spots,” mentioned deputy commissioner of police Sujit Kumar.
