Maharashtra govt approves Rs 33,000 crore package for incomplete irrigation projects

MUMBAI: State govt had approved a cost escalation of Rs 33,000 crore and given revised administrative approvals to 205 incomplete irrigation initiatives within the state.


Irrigation minister Girish Mahajan mentioned that a majority of these initiatives were pending for the ultimate several years and the congress-NCP govt didn't now not give price range to those initiatives leaving the price to escalate and the initiatives to pull on.


"There are in all 307 such pending projects of which 205 has been given revised approvals by us and we are prioritising their completion," mentioned Mahajan. He also mentioned that the remainder initiatives will take the price escalation to Rs 40,000 crore.


Mahajan mentioned that there were several reasons for the upward push in value. Increase in the cost of uncooked materials, expanding the scope of work, land acquisition value has long gone up and likewise there were some changes within the design of the undertaking or additions to make it extra helpful.


The congress- NCP govt was once rocked through allegations of shelling out mass tenders within the irrigation division without following the smooth clauses.


"Once these projects are completed 3.5 lakh hectares of land will come under irrigation," mentioned Mahajan. He also mentioned that there are 26 proposals under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana which when finished will convey 5 lakh hectares under irrigation.
