Night landing soon at RGIA's second runway

HYDERABAD: Soon, the town's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) might have night landing facility on its 2d runway. While it has already acquired in-principle approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), "for upgrading the secondary runway infrastructure and runway lighting system to facilitate night operations", airport authorities said they are anticipating a formal nod to roll out the service.

This comes as excellent information as best two days ago an IndiGo flight's tyre burst incident on the Hyderabad airport threw the entire airline network throughout India out of drugs, leaving 1000's of passengers stranded at more than one airports for hours on finish.


On March 28, 4 equipment wheels of a Tirupati-Hyderabad ATR aircraft burst on landing. With the primary runway shut for over 4 hours, the incident had a cascading impact on dozens of flights that have been both diverted, cancelled or inordinately not on time.
