Officials fix damaged water pipelines

TIRUPUR: The town company and Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) have finally taken steps to repair the damaged pipelines of the first and second water schemes. The company additionally stopped the water supply for two days for a similar.

The first and second water schemes have been carried out by drawing water from the Bhavani river at Mettupalayam in Coimbatore. The 51-year-old first water scheme, with a capability to provide four.7 million litres in keeping with day (MLD), was once owned by the company, whilst the second one water scheme, with a capability to provide 26MLD, was once owned by the TWAD.


In the second one water scheme, 600mm pipeline was once laid from Mettupalayam to Tirupur. There have been ceaselessly court cases of water leak duo to pipeline damage. A senior company reputable admitted that out of 26MLD, 6 MLD was once wasted because of leak and other reasons day-to-day.


At Ammapalayam on Tirupur-Avinashi road, there have been seven damages to the pipeline and thousands of litres of water had long gone waste day-to-day in the past two months. Despite protests, the issue was once now not addressed.


When contacted, a TWAD reputable said, “Since Tirupur-Avinashi road was once administered by the National Highways Authority of India, we had to obtain permission from them in addition to the police to repair the damages. The permission was once now not granted instantly after we approached them. Hence, the extend.”
