TRICHY: A statue of social reformer Periyar E V Ramasamy was discovered beheaded close to Alangudi in Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday morning. The head was discovered lying close to the statue.
Police mentioned some miscreants damaged the statue on Monday night time.
Over 200 police staff have been deployed within the house to steer clear of any untoward incident.
Members of the DMK came in a procession from Alangudi to the statue and attempted to level a protest. Pudukkottai superintendent of police Selvaraj, who arrived at the spot, pacified them. Following an assurance from the SP, the DMK cadre dispersed.
The Alangudi police registered a case, and extra investigations have been on.
