Sushil targets 2018 Asian Games and World C'ships

NEW DELHI: In the corridors of wrestling, other people have of overdue been talking in hushed voices about double Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar’s forthcoming retirement after the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia from April 4 to 15.

Top officials of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) were of the same view. And, expecting Sushil’s departure from world enviornment, Sushil’s challengers in the 74kg class, Praveen Rana and Jitender, have even started getting ready for this year’s Jakarta Asian Games to be held in August-September, hoping to make the cut.

But for all the ones nursing the need to dethrone Sushil and change into his successor, the 2012 London Olympics silver medallist isn’t having a look to hang his boots, no less than now not after Gold Coast as speculated. In truth, the 34-year-old from Baprola village in Najafgarh is having a look to play the party-pooper.

The celebrated wrestler stated on Thursday that he's having a look to compete on the Asian Games and the Senior World Championships to be held in Budapest, Hungary from October 22-28.

“I'm really not going anywhere. All those who are talking about my forthcoming retirement after the CWG, let me set the report straight. I will be able to be showing for the pains for the Asian Games and also will compete for a spot in the squad for the Worlds. This year I will be able to play each the occasions after which take a choice on my long run. I'm in a position to stand Rana, Jitender or whoever comes my way,” Sushil instructed TOI.

“My body is preserving up smartly. I'm more healthy than ever before. I'm getting better smartly from my knee damage (which forced him to miss the PWL and Asian Championships in Kyrgyzstan). I didn’t need to irritate it conserving the CWG in mind. I will be able to quickly depart for a coaching stint in Georgia before flying straight to Gold Coast,” he added.


With Sushil desperate to prolong his occupation, all fanatics who need to see any other mouth-watering duel between Sushil and his rival Rana, would get to peer the two clash all over the pains for the Asiad and Worlds.


It may be recalled that their bout all over the CWG trials ended in a fracas between Sushil and Rana’s supporters.


Sushil’s name hasn’t been beneficial by way of the WFI for receiving investment underneath the Target Olympic Podium (TOP) scheme. He also isn’t entitled for Rs 50,000 per 30 days stipend offered by way of the sports activities ministry to elite athletes. But Sushil has no qualms.


“I will be able to proceed to pay for my training from my own pocket. I will be able to cross to Georgia on my own,” he informed.
