Two cops attempt self-immolation at police headquarters in Chennai

CHENNAI: Two policemen from Theni district attempted self-immolation in front of the Tamil Nadu police headquarters at Mylapore right here on Wednesday night to protest against what they referred to as bias by means of their seniors.
The policemen, known as Raghu and Ganesh, came to the police headquarters in uniform. One them took a five-litre can containing kerosene and poured it on his and his good friend’s bodies.

On spotting this, team of workers on accountability on the police headquarters tried to prevent them from their self-immolation strive. However, the police constable continued to pour kerosene. The police officers who tried to dissuade the duo also were given soaking wet in kerosene.


The police team of workers who came to dissuade the police officers panicked and so they moved to a safe distance from the duo.


Meanwhile, a police guy tried to persuade them. Two different police officers brought water in a can and poured it at the duo. Later, they had been taken to the police station for questioning.


The duo informed reporters that senior officers in Theni district had been behaving in a biased manner. The seniors facilitated and transferred a section of police team of workers belonging to certain communities, they said.
