IIT-M students come close to PM to protest

CHENNAI: Despite tight safety preparations in place to defend Narendra Modi from the Cauvery agitations, a group of about 25 pupil protesters managed to take hold of the eye of the Prime Minister as his convoy handed throughout the IIT Madras campus on Thursday. The IIT-M scholars, from the mechanical engineering department, stuck safety workforce via surprise once they raised slogans and placards against Modi in front of the Mechanical Sciences Block.

On a day when the city was nearly painted black with flags raised via agitators pressing for the instant constitution of a Cauvery Management Board, best those scholars got shut sufficient to the Prime Minister to protest. Aside from tough formation of the Cauvery Management Board, the scholars, some of them clad in black and protecting placards, also raised voices against the Centre’s upper schooling policy as a lone police constable kept watch.


Modi was making his way to the Adyar Cancer Institute when the scholars stuck sight of his convoy. A compound wall diving the most cancers institute and Children’s Park have been demolished to make parking lot for the convoy. On the IIT-M campus, a helipad have been set up for Modi’s helicopter.


Modi, who had flown into the city to inaugurate DefExpo-2018 at Thiruvidanthai on East Coast Road (ECR), also inaugurated a day-care facility, a nursing quarters and a diamond jubilee building at the most cancers institute, except for a palliative care centre in Sriperumbudur.


Several adjustments had been effected in Modi’s travel plan to make sure that agitators didn't get a possibility to block the prime ministerial convoy. About 5,000 police workforce had been deployed in and across the DefExpo venue, whilst the Indian Coast Guard and coastal safety group CID officers monitored the state’s beach.
