In a chat with TOI, Dr Hiriyan Ravi Kumar, superintendent of the federal government headquarters health facility in Ooty, speaks about the amenities presented and the future plans for the health facility.
How many outpatients does the Ooty GH treat every day?
On a median, around 800 outpatients take pleasure in the health facility. Around 150 supply cases are handled at the Sait Memorial Hospital (maternity wing) every month.
What amenities does the GH have?
The 421-bed health facility has three operation theatres - one for the primary wing, and some other for the maternity wing - besides one for the ophthalmic division. The health facility could also be provided with CT and MRI scanners, virtual X-ray, three ultrasound machines, besides five dialysis machines with five beds.
What other amenities does the GH be offering?
We have a full-fledged blood bank. Blood is sent to other hospitals within the district on requirement. Besides, an unique block with 20 beds is available for the CM’s health insurance scheme. Unlike some other government health facility, we have a paid block located in a heritage building.
Does the GH at all times see full occupancy?
No. On a median, best 50% of the overall energy of is occupied.
Have the health facility authorities submitted an offer to the federal government for upgradation of the health facility or for a medical college within the Nilgiris?
If a medical college is sanctioned for the district, it would have super area of expertise wards. Yes, we had given an offer to the district management when the upgradation used to be announced within the meeting by way of the then CM. Even now, an offer in the hunt for a medical college within the Nilgiris has been submitted to the district management for the collector’s meet in Chennai.
