Who said Pallava sculptures are only religious icons? Exhibition in Chennai to explore their secular side
CHENNAI: Commissioner of archaeology D Jagannathan will inaugurate the second version of Friends of Heritage Sites’ (FoHS) sculpture display “Vichitrachitta 2018” at Art Houz right here on March 16. Art historian and critic Ashrafi S Bhagat will talk on “Importance and importance of Pallava artwork and structure” after the launch of the exhibition.
At least 16 miniature and lawn taste sculptures made during the workshops conducted via FoHS will likely be displayed. “We have 16 sculptures which are in the nature of lawn and drawing room arte details. The center of attention is on miniature variations of the Pallava artwork shape and we trust this may get the artwork nearer to folks,” stated Sharmila Genesan of the FoHS.

In 2015, the individuals of the workshop created six miniature works in keeping with six original sculptures in Mamallapuram. The mission evoked super enthusiasm amongst artwork enthusiasts. “All the six sculptures have been bought out in mins at our first exhibition held in 2015. This came about basically because the sculptor community in Mamallapuram may just relook at the conventional sculptures around them with a new perspective. The workshops have been a really perfect success,” she stated.
The FoHS helped the sculptors with fresh guidelines from experts during the workshops. “We felt that those sculptures may just also are compatible into a modern drawing room house. The sculptors have been basically skilled in the usage of granite stone. With the help of experts, lets train them making sculptures the usage of soapstone (a soft rock consisting largely of talc), wood and other soft stones,” she stated.
“With the emerging call for for miniature arte details, the sculptors have been skilled in expressing miniature variations of the Pallava artwork shape the usage of those change stone medium,” she added.
The exhibition is open to public on March 17 and 18 from 10am to 5pm.
