HYDERABAD: Unhappy with the University of Hyderabad (UoH) government’ efforts to offer protection to flora and fauna on camps, forest department officials have now taken it up on themselves and recognized a 500-acre land parcel, on the southern side of the campus, to expand it as a ‘safe zone.’ Speaking to TOI, officials said that for the previous 10 days they've been analyzing different areas throughout the university to make a choice an ideal location for the purpose.
“In April ultimate year, we conducted a gathering and it used to be agreed that an area shall be advanced and the entire flora and fauna shall be moved to that particular area. However, to this point that has been no building on that front. So, we have now taken it up on ourselves and recognized a location. The area is development loose and has three lakes – Buffalo, Peacock, and Mermaid — and just right vegetation,” said A Shankar, officer on special accountability, forest department adding that a meeting with UoH government shall be held in an afternoon or two to talk about the problem. The varsity shall be requested to decide to time period within which the area shall be advanced.
“It is university’s land. So, we won’t be spending our money to expand the area. We will supply them with the entire required guidance and assist in setting up the area,” said Shankar.
While stressing the need to curb flora and fauna death due to canine attacks, poaching and pollution, officials said all of the work will take no more than three months.
