NOIDA: The district Justice of the Peace of Gautam Budh Nagar has ordered the inspection of all college canteens in the wake of around 200 students falling in poor health after having meals and water served at Step via Step college.
BN Singh, the DM, said he had steered the executive medical officer and the fundamental schooling officer to ensure canteens and eateries in schools adopted tips laid down in the Food Safety Standards Act, 2006. Officials were steered to check for batch numbers, manufacturing date and nutrition worth on packets of spices and fit to be eaten oil used to prepare dinner meals for students. “Spices and fit to be eaten oil should be of fine high quality they usually must be packed tightly. Those cooking the meals must put on gloves and make sure the surroundings are clean. The canteen and the varsity should each preserve meals samples for a minimum of 24 hours so they are able to be examined in case such an incident occurs,” Singh said.
Officials from the meals and health departments have visited Step via Step twice after the students there took in poor health. While the primary seek advice from ultimate week yielded little instead of ajwain and fit to be eaten oil, the second inspection to collect water samples from the varsity’s faucets on Wednesday used to be accomplished after the tanks had been cleaned.
Vedpal Singh Pundir, the SHO of Expressway police station, said Step via Step had written to police naming 12 individuals who controlled the canteen on the campus. Sodexo, the agency that manned the kitchen, said it used to be but to get any intimation from the police.
The DM said the groups would often make surprise visits to varsities. If items are found to be substandard, a Rs 1 lakh fine could be levied each and every on the college and the agency manning the kitchen. “There could also be a provision for 3 months’ imprisonment. The schools were specifically advised to ensure meals safety standards and cooperate with the management and police if want be,” Singh said.
CMO Anurag Bhargava said the health division would quickly shape groups to head on inspections. “We will quickly issue an advisory for all schools about meals and water served to students. The college management and the canteen operator could be requested to taste the meals first sooner than serving it,” he said.
