BENGALURU: Residents of Bellandur had been in for a rude shock on Thursday morning to see 24 trees had been chopped down of their area. They suspect the trees in the median over a stretch of 500 metres near the skywalk on Bellandur Gate Road had been felled through miscreantsto givebetter visibility to advertisement hoardings close by. This is said to be the fourth such incident in the contemporary past.
Three types of trees – Tabebuia, Pongamia oiltree and Pride of India— had been felled. In a determined bid to avoid wasting stumps and salvage the chopped parts of the trees, citizens along withenvironmentalist andtreedoctor Vijay Nishanth carried out fungicide to them on Sunday .
“By making use of fungicide on stumps as well as the bark, we will save you an infection on trees. They can develop once more with none an infection as they have good enlargement capacity,” stated Vijay.
Residents stated tree cutting is due to the hoarding threat on either side of the street, similar to what happened in Marathahalli closing month the place 10 trees had been lower. “These trees were lower through non-public organizations to make stronger visibility in their hoardings. This hasbeen happening for someday now and in line with our proceedings to the Lokayukta, three FIRs were filed. There is an order which makes it illegal tocuttreesfor the purposeof better visibility. The licences of those organizations must be cancelled and their hoardings must be brought down right away,” stated Vijay, including that a grievance willbe registered on Monday.
OdetteKatrak, a resident, stated: “All those trees were lower overnight when many of the cops in the area had been busy with elections.”
