HD Kote (Mysuru): In an unlucky incident, a 60-year-old wild elephant named Bakra by the woodland department officials, died when it were given trapped inside a ditch at Dammanakatte Haadi in Heggada Devana (HD) Kote taluk on Thursday.
Ironically, the ditch that Bakra fell into used to be dug to stop elephants straying into the village. Residents of the village mentioned that the tusker fell throughout the ditch around 2am on Thursday. “Owing to the power with which the elephant fell throughout the ditch, its tusks stuck within the dust. With its legs trapped within the slush, it used to be not able to move. Bakra tried to heave himself up, but he used to be not able to do so for the reason that ditch used to be full of dust,” a Dammanakatte Hundi resident mentioned.
Locals mentioned that the elephant could be found roaming at Antarasanthe, Metikuppe and Belleguppi villages. “We named it Bakra as a result of its tusks, which have been lengthy and spherical in shape,” they mentioned.
‘Tusker tried to kill woodland watcher’
The residents recalled a five-month-old incident during which Bakra had allegedly tried to kill woodland watcher Cheluva. “Thankfully, he escaped with a couple of injuries for the reason that elephant used to be not able to chase him,” the villagers mentioned
Assistant conservator of forests for Antarasanthe AC Povaiah mentioned, “This used to be the eldest tusker in this vary. Bakra used to be greater than the Dasara elephant Arjuna. He grew susceptible owing to age-related issues.”
