LUDHIANA: With a view to modernise the prevailing coaching situation within the district, Punjab sports department is making ready a listing of local govt coaches especially athletics, hockey and boxing who would additional take part in latest coaching technique sessions. Punjab sports department has taken this initiative to replace the coaching requirements within the state.
Speaking on the factor, assistant to deputy director of Punjab sports department, Kartar Singh Sehmbay, said, "Punjab sports department is already organising special training sessions with Australian coaches to upgrade the level of coaching in the state. Two years ago, the sports department had signed a MoU (memorandum of understanding) with the Australian counterpart to provide latest training techniques to our government coaches. This was done to produce world-class players in our state."
Sehmbay said under this initiative, Ludhiana govt coaches will get hands-on revel in with the ways utilized by the international coaches in Australia, USA to prepare the budding fans within the initial level in their learning.
"The sports department will soon choose some of the local government coaches, who will take part in this special training session in the coming days. They will be provided with opportunities to take advantages of the state government initiative and learn about the advanced techniques," he said.
Sehmbay said at this time hockey, athletics and boxing coaches will likely be given precedence within the listing. They will move to Mohali to attend the training session.
"Australian coaches will conduct special training sessions. They will guide our coaches about the latest advancements in sports, which will help them to improve the present scenario of coaching in the state," said Sehmbay.
Meanwhile, Sehmbay told TOI some of the govt coaches of Mohali and Jalandhar had participated in these coaching sessions previous and have discovered the international ways. "Moreover, the department has also provided latest equipment to the coaches, who underwent the training session," he said.
Sources within the sports department said, "Punjab sports department is not happy with the performances of the government coaches across the state. Punjab is continuously losing its credibility with players failing to perform well in the recently-concluded national and state level tournaments across the country. From last three years, none of the players from the government training centres have managed to secure a gold or silver medal in any open national-level tournament held across the country. So, the authorities are trying hard to improve the quality of the coaches."
