Authorities set to round up stray pigs in Hubballi-Dharwad as preventive measure

HUBBALLI: As part of measures to halt the unfold of the deadly Nipah virus (NiV), authorities in the dual cities of Hubballi and Dharwad have hit on two strange measures: Track scholars from Kerala as well as their relations and friends who consult with them, and two: round up stray pigs.

Meanwhile, mayor Sudheer Saraf, Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, said since pigs are also carriers of the virus, stray pigs will likely be rounded up. “We do not know the precise selection of stray pigs in the cities, but it's said that there are thousands,” Saraf said. “Men from Tumakuru and Tamil Nadu will catch them and take them away.”
