Heritage Special train on three Sundays starting May 27

CHENNAI: A Heritage Special train from Chennai Egmore to Kodambakkam will likely be operated for the benefit of passengers and steam heritage fans on 3 consecutive Sundays (May 27, June 3, and June 10).
As most effective limited seats are to be had, tickets will likely be sold to passengers on first come first served basis at the morning of the heritage run. The counter will open for issuing tickets one hour sooner than the heritage run. The Chennai Egmore station director will issue a special certificates to passengers as a souvenir.

Chennai Egmore-Kodambakkam Heritage Special train (00666) hauled via Heritage Steam Loco EIR 21 will go away Chennai Egmore at 10am to reach Kodambakkam via 10.30am. The composition of the train would be the Steam Loco EIR 21 and one specifically designed coach having 40 seats. The fare for the journey is Rs 650 (for adults) and Rs 500 (for kids beneath 12 years).

Southern Railway common manager R Okay Kulshrestha will oversee the event.

The ride may also double up as a commute down memory lane, since it's going to be hauled via EIR 21, the oldest working steam locomotive within the nation.

Southen Railway has performed seven heritage runs since 2010, but they weren't open to contributors of the general public.

This is part of a new initiative via Railway Board chairman Ashwani Lohani who has directed the zones to run heritage trains hauled via working steam locos.
