BENGALURU: Namma Metro services and products have been disrupted for 39 minutes on Monday morning after a technical glitch hit the Byappanahalli-Mysuru Road Purple Line, inconveniencing commuters, specifically office-goers.
A BMRCL remark mentioned a signalling failure happened on the access point of Byappanahalli station at 10.18am as a result of which trains couldn’t arrive or depart till the machine was manually reset and restored by means of 10.57am.
Six round journeys from Byappanahalli have been cancelled because of the signalling failure, mentioned BMRCL managing director Mahendra Jain in a remark.
The Metro staffers needed to evacuate 158 passengers from one train through a walkway to the platform at 10.35am after it was stranded about 200m from the station. Following this, three trains heading to Byappanahalli have been terminated — one at SV Road and two at Indiranagar stations.

Many stations, together with the Majestic interchange, MG Road and Indiranagar stations, saw a massive crowd for over an hour and several other services and products have been delayed as a result of the technical snag.
“There was a temporary problem at Byappanahalli crossover the place the trains turn back. As a consequence, some trains needed to turn back at Indiranagar and a few trains detained a bit longer at quite a lot of stations. The problem was fixed and services and products have been back to standard by means of round 11am. No train have been caught halfway in a tunnel as energy provide was not affected,” mentioned Jain.
Many stranded passengers took to social media to vent their anger. Raviprajna, a commuter, tweeted, “Namma Metro workforce collects Metro fare knowingly even when train was stopped (for) greater than 45 minutes because of a technical issue inflicting inconvenience to many.”
Another commuter, Mohan Krishnappa, tweeted, “Namma Metro Kudos 2u. What punctuality (sic); different countries will have to be informed from u. Halted for 30mins at Vidhana Soudha stn; wasted precious time with money that too in height time; critical(ly) affecting many commuters. V would have opted (for) BMTC for higher punctuality (sic).”
However, BMRCL stated that 16 tokens — five at Byappanahalli, five at Indiranagar and 6 at Mysuru Road stations — for a price of Rs 340 have been refunded right through the duration.
BMRCL also operated three quick loops from Indiranagar to Mysuru Road and Majestic interchange to transparent the frenzy. “Signal failure is being investigated thoroughly,” the remark added.
