Coimbatore: Officials from the Coimbatore Corporation demolished an old industrial construction at Lanka Corner near the railway station on Monday.
The corporation’s the town planning department has been receiving court cases in regards to the poor stability of the construction. Residents complained that the construction may cave in any time.

“Last year, a central crew visited the construction and gave a report saying that it was once bad for profession. We had issued a lock and seal order last month to the shopowners in the construction,” mentioned a the town planning official.


The construction homes 12 stores. While owners of 7 stores had vacated, 5 had filed a case in opposition to the lock and seal order at the Madras high court. The court ordered that the demolition was once vital in view of the general public safety and dismissed the petitions, mentioned the official.


On Monday, the town planning officers, in conjunction with 25 corporation employees, visited the spot and asked the 5 closing shopowners to vacate. With the assistance of corporation employees, they shifted out the items from the malls and demolished the construction.


“We demolished the japanese side of the construction. As the western side was once abutting a street, we will be able to demolish it in the evening when the site visitors was once much less. The demolition procedure could be completed on Tuesday,” mentioned the official.
