Constable, 3 criminals held for 'smuggling' arms

JORHAT: A police constable and three different wanted criminals had been arrested on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in hands smuggling from a tea lawn in Jorhat. The accused had been produced in court, which sent the policeman to judicial custody and the others to three-day police remand.

Police found a single-barrel breach loading gun and ammunition on them. The constable, identified as Pradip Saikia, labored with the Jorhat site visitors branch. The different co-accused were identified as Babul Lahon, Manoj Dutta and Mithu Borah. There are a number of cases of homicide, theft, hands smuggling, car lifting and extortion against them.


OC of Bhogdoi police outpost, Tulumoni Duarah, stated, "Acting on a tip-off, a police team launched a search operation at a tea garden in the Sotai area early on Wednesday and arrested Manoj from the spot. Manoj was driving a car with arms and ammunition to an undisclosed destination when we caught him."
