Corporation launches drive to bring down illegal hoardings across city

Coimbatore: With unauthorised hoardings mushrooming in the city again, civic activists have filed a petition with town corporation in quest of motion against the violators. In the ultimate 15 days alone, the corporation had removed about 168 such hoardings put in across the city.

Corporation officials stated that they've introduced an extensive force to remove unlawful hoardings. “We removed some of these hoardings from residential areas. Several building house owners had set them up with out getting no-objection certificate from the corporation and the police division,” an assistant the city planning officer stated.


Corporation officials stated that since October 2016, as many as 1,198 hoardings had been removed from the east zone, 2,247 from the west zone, 1,006 from north zone, 158 from south zone and 1,805 from central zone. “A total of 6,414 hoardings had been removed and we are continuing the force,” he informed TOI.


As in line with norms, those who want to set up an advertisement hoarding will have to get permission from a number of departments whether it is on government buildings. To set up temporary hoardings, an utility must be submitted to the income divisional officer/sub-collector involved, enclosing the NOC from the building owner or AEE/ADE (for presidency buildings), NOC from the police station involved and the challan for cost of licence rate for 15 days sooner than the erection of the hoarding. After scrutiny of the appliance, permission would be granted for erecting the hoarding for a most of six days. The income earned is shared through the corporation and the district administration.


Real estate firms and condo house owners nonetheless set up hoardings alongside city roads and within their campuses with out getting permission, civic activist SP Thiyagarajan stated. “Apart from causing highway accidents and visitors violations, the unlawful hoardings result in large income loss to the federal government,” he stated.
