Textile ministry’s scheme to boost city’s warp knitting sector

Surat: The warp knitting sector within the nation’s biggest man-made-fabric (MMF) centre within the city is prone to get a significant spice up with Ministry of Textiles launching a scheme for knitting and knitwear sector on Thursday.

Industry resources stated Surat is rising as a warp knitting sector with put in capability of over 1,000 warp knitting machines. The annual turnover of warp knitting sector within the city is pegged at Rs1,000 crore.


Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) resources stated the scheme for knitting and knitwear sector would mostly receive advantages MSME, which comes under decentralized sector and that it will give a significant fillip to employment generation within the kitting sector within the nation. Knitted fabrics give a contribution 27% of the entire material manufacturing within the nation and 15% of them are exported.


SRTEPC chairman Narain Aggarwal told TOI, “The primary function of the scheme is to set up new provider centres on PPP style by way of business associations, modernization and upgradation of existing power loom provider centres. It would additionally help workforce workshed scheme, yarn financial institution, not unusual facility centre, Pradhan Mantri credit score scheme and many others. The MSME units all for knitting sector in Surat and across the nation can be benefited.”


Aggarwal stated warp knitted fabrics are broadly used for sports clothing, undies, shoes, automobile seat covers and mattresses along with technical textiles like car filtration, lining and pocketing mesh. Most of the units in Surat and somewhere else manufacture higher quality products than China.
