If showed, Chanu, who has been examined certain for testosterone, may lose her Commonwealth Games gold. Chanu delivered India its 2d gold medal of the 2018 CWG in Gold Coast City, Australia by way of dominating the women's 53kg match.
"The international federation reports that the sample of Ms. Sanjita Chanu Khumukcham (IND) has returned an Adverse Analytical Finding for Testosterone (S1.1 Anabolic Agents). As a consequence, the Athlete is provisionally suspended in view of a potential anti-doping rule violation," IWF stated on its web page.
"In any case where it is determined that the Athlete did not commit an anti-doping rule violation, the relevant decision will also be published," the IWF added.
The IWF did not give details, such as the dates, of the dope test sample collection, announcing "it will not make any further comments on the case until it is closed"
The 24-year-old from Manipur broke the CWG record with a lift of 84kg in the seize class after which lifted 108kg in the blank & jerk to finish with a combined effort of 192kg.
The defending champion, Loa Dika Toua of Papua New Guinea, claimed silver with a complete raise of 182kg (80kg in seize and 102kg in blank & jerk) and bronze went to Canada's Rachel Leblanc-Bazinet who finished with a combined effort of 181kg (81kg in seize and 100kg in blank & jerk).
Sanjita entered the Gold Coast Games as one of the most brightest medal hopes for India - she gained gold four years in the past on the Glasgow CWG in the 48kg class - and having switched to the 53kg class she lived upto her billing.
Sanjita got interested in weightlifting after being inspired by way of the enduring N Kunjarani Devi. She made headlines after winning gold on the 2009 senior nationals earlier than grabbing a bronze on the Asian Weightlifting Championships in 2011.
In 2012, she gained gold on the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships. At the 2014 CWG, at just 20 years of age, Sanjita gained gold over Mirabai Chanu with a complete raise of 173kg which was once just two kgs wanting the Games record.
Sanjita booked a spot on the 2018 CWG after taking gold in the ladies's 53kg with a complete raise of 195kg (85kg+110kg) on the Commonwealth Senior (men and women) Weightlifting Championships.
