Education institutes get fresh Odia directive

BHUBANESWAR: The upper education division has issued a fresh letter to varsities and universities of the state to write down title in their institutions in Odia. It has given two weeks for the institutions to make the trade.
The division on Wednesday issued the letter. Regional director of education, Bhubaneswar, had issued a similar letter to varsities within the city final month. Maharishi College of Natural Law wrote the institution's title in Odia at its access gate after getting the letter.

The state has 12 universities, 52 authorities colleges and more than 500 non-government colleges under the jurisdiction of higher education division. Several colleges around the state are but to write down title of the universities in Odia on the access gates, stated a senior professional of the higher education division.


GVV Sarma, upper education secretary, stated colleges and universities can retain the institution's title in English, but they have to prominently show title in Odia.


"We have informed the works department to help the institutions in this regard. I hope the institutions can do it within two weeks. Most of the colleges and universities have done it," stated Sarma.


The upper education secretary stated the federal government has taken a number of measures to advertise Odia language.
