GUWAHATI: After throwing its gates open to cyclists, the state zoo is now encouraging citizens to adopt a healthy lifestyle by allowing trekking throughout the zoo premises. The zoo will also create zoo golf equipment and supply annual memberships to carry other people closer to the zoo.
"We are promoting a healthy lifestyle among the residents by allowing the people to cycle here. Besides, it also helps to build a close relationship with the people. We are glad to have an overwhelming response from the city residents who come here for cycling everyday," divisional forest officer Tejas Mariswamy advised TOI on Tuesday.
As in step with the plan, there can be a 6-kilomtre trek path throughout the zoo which can be opened in a while. "We can start trekking twice a month in the mornings. Two people from the zoo will accompany them. We are planning to start it in the next few weeks. The trek route is beautiful. There will be an annual membership fee of Rs 1,000 and the members can avail all the facilities," Mariswamy mentioned.
The cycling initiative, which has been welcomed by the citizens, was once began in November 2017. The DFO mentioned 20 cyclists consult with the zoo each and every morning on average. The zoo has a minimum of 15 bicycles which may also be borrowed and visitors too can carry their own bicycles. Individuals wish to pay Rs 30 for an hour in the event that they want to hire a cycle from the zoo government. "We allow the individuals to bring their own cycle and go inside the zoo. They need to pay Rs 30 as fees. The process will continue throughout the day," Mariswamy added.
