Heavy security for Maheshtala bypoll in Bengal

KOLKATA:The Election Commission has deployed 10 corporations of Central forces, but even so a large contingent of state military, to make sure loose, truthful and peaceful by-election the next day on the Maheshtala Assembly constituency, a most sensible reliable said on Sunday.
Maheshtala falls underneath South 24 Paganas district of West Bengal, where 2,48,855 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise on Monday.

"Altogether, 10 companies of Central forces have been deployed, besides a large contingent of state armed forces, to ensure the election is free, fair and peaceful," Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in West Bengal Aariz Aftab told .

He said 1,415 polling body of workers have already reached their respective polling cubicles and feature begun path march and house domination in different sensitive and hyper sensitive pockets. Polling will probably be held in 283 cubicles underneath 211 polling premises.

The All India Trinamool Congress, the BJP and the CPI(M) are contesting the bypolls. The Congress isn't in the fray.

Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and Voter-Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) will probably be used in all polling cubicles, the CEO said, including the VVPATs would provide comments to voters.


The bypoll will start at 7 am and continue until 6 pm, the CEO said, including videography of the polling procedure and webcasting have additionally been arranged.


Counting of votes will probably be hung on May 31 from 8 am, he said.


The AITMC has fielded Dulal Das, the husband of past due celebration MLA Kasturi Das whose death has necessitated the by-poll, whilst the BJP, which is attempting to emerge as the main challenger to the AITMC, has nominated Sujit Ghsosh, a former joint director of the CBI.
