Jacto-Geo protests: Traffic hit; 1,200 arrested

CHENNAI: Police arrested round 1,200 contributors of the Joint Action committee of Teachers Organisations and Government Employees Organisations (Jacto-Geo) here on Tuesday when they attempted to march towards the Secretariat to degree a protest challenging fee of arrears below the 7th Pay Commission recommendations and implementation of the old pension scheme.


The march affected site visitors at the Anna Salai and lots of other roads.

Police stored barricades in front of Triplicane police station, Chepauk Guest House, close to Madras University distance schooling building and opposite to MGR memorial.

As police sealed the entire roads to the Secretariat, the protesters walked through lanes and narrow pathways to reach the Kamarajar Salai.


As many as 2,500 police workforce had been deployed in and around the Secretariat.

The Tamil Nadu police estimated that round 25,000 protesters, together with four,500 girls, from quite a lot of districts reached Chennai on Monday night time by way of automobiles, trucks and educate.


The protest was once peaceful. It was once different from the protest over the Cauvery factor that shook the city a couple of weeks in the past. Police workforce had been sympathetic towards the protesters as JACTO-GEO contributors had been protesting for all sections of presidency staff.
